Abstract

The aim of the study was to evaluate the effectiveness of herbal preparation Chophytol® (artichokes leaf extract) of Mayoly-Spindler Co. (France) in the treatment of patients with cholelithiasis stage I. A comprehensive study of the physicochemical properties of bile, blood lipid spectrum and the functional state of the biliary system in 210 patients with I stage of cholelithiasis. Depending on the therapy, there were 3 groups. The decrease in the lithogenicity of bile observed at the end of the course of treatment, the normalization of lipid metabolism and the motor-evacuation function of the biliary tract were more pronounced in the group of patients treated with Chophytol® compared with the group of patients receiving ursodeoxycholic acid only or a combination of choleretic, antispasmodic and enzyme preparations.

Abstract

The article is devoted to the results of our own study of structural and fibrotic changes in the pancreatic parenchyma in patients with chronic pancreatitis. It was shown that the formation of fibrous tissue in chronic pancreatitis begins from the ducts and gradually covers the interlobar space and penetrates into the lobes of the pancreas. As fibrosis progresses, the volume fraction of exocrine tissue decreases due to the activation of apoptosis mechanisms and due to fatty degeneration. With a high degree of fibrosis, focal vacuolar dystrophy was detected in the acinar tissue of the pancreatic lobules of all patients, focal apoptosis and lobular apoptosis was observed in 45.4 %. With complete atrophy of the acinar tissue of the pancreatic lobes, hyperplasia of the epithelium of the interlobar and intralobar ducts was observed. The adaptive neoplasm of the endocrine islets (non-idiogenesis) from the epithelium of the intralobular ducts of the pancreas was revealed.

Abstract

Alcoholic liver disease and non-alcoholic fatty liver disease are chronic non-communicable diseases with an extremely high prevalence among the world's population. Currently, there is a tendency to a rapid increase in their number with frequent disability of patients and a high need for liver transplantation. Violations of the main metabolic processes in the liver under the influence of exogenous and endogenous factors are the starting point in the development of alcoholic and nonalcoholic liver pathology. This review discusses the main recommendations for non-drug and drug management of patients with liver diseases of non-viral etiology with a detailed description of the main hepatoprotectors with an emphasis on the universal properties of silymarin.

Abstract

Against the backdrop of the high prevalence of obesity in the population, non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) is a serious problem for modern health care. NAFLD is an independent risk factor for the development of cardiovascular diseases (CVD), regardless of the presence of traditional factors. CVD and NAFLD have common risk factors, including insulin resistance (peripheral and hepatic), atherogenic dyslipidemia, and abdominal obesity. This article presents modern views on the mechanisms of CVD formation in patients with NAFLD, as well as modern methods for the diagnosis of liver fibrosis as the main risk factor for the development of cardiovascular catastrophes.

Abstract

Forty-seven patients with overlap between irritable bowel syndrome with constipation and (IBS-C) and postpradial distress syndrome (PDS) complying with Rome III criteria were treated with pinaverium in combination with itopride and 58 patients with IBS-C-PDS overlap were treated with pinaverium for 4 weeks. Clinical symptoms and quality of life by SF-36 were estimated at baseline and after 4 weeks of treatment. Pinaverium and Itopride combination therapy significantly improved both IBS-C and PDS-like symptoms, and SF-36 scores when compared to Pinaverium monotherapy over a 4-week period.
