Assessment of mandible molars’ length and distancefrom tops of molars to important anatomical structures according to cone-beam computed tomography data in various age groups

Abstract

For performing various dental procedures on the posterior mandible, the clinician should pay attention to the relationship between the root apices of mandibular teeth and the mandibular canal. Using cone-beam computed tomography (CBCT) scanning in measuring this distance allows preparing an accurate treatment plan and minimizing the development of complications. In our study, we analyzed CBCT images of patients in three age groups: young, middle and elderly. The mandibular third molar had the minimal proximity to the mandibular canal, and this should be considered when preparing a treatment plan for dental intervention.
