Features of overactive bladder therapy in postmenopausal women

Abstract

Introduction. Among all types of urinary incontinence urge incontinence (UI), accompanying overactive bladder (OAB) minimizes the quality of life, exerting a negative impact on all aspects of it. All patients in postmenopausal women at the same time with these tools recommended hormone therapy in the form of topical creams or suppositories that contain natural estrogen estriol. Materials and Methods. The study included 153 women aged 55-70 years (mean age 66,5 ± 7,4 years). Group I consisted of 76 women with symptoms of OAB, monotherapy drugs from the group M-cholinolytics within three months (solifenacin succinate 10 mg per day). II group consisted of 77 women with symptoms of OAB, taking a combination of drugs M-cholinolytics (solifenacin succinate 10 mg per day) and estrogen (estriol cream 0.5 mg vaginally every other day) for three months. Results. As a result of the treatment showed that after month of treatment there was a significant reduction in pollakiuria (31.1 %), nocturia (29.6 %) and urgency (27.1 %) in all patients. After 3 months of treatment, patients in both groups showed significant clinical improvement: pollakiuria decreased on average by 77.8 %, nocturia by 64.0 %, urgency by 77.8 % and urge incontinence by 66.7 %. It is shown that the higher the efficiency of the combined schemes of treatment urgency symptoms (61and 84.2 % of cured patients after 3 months of therapy M-cholinolytics and their combination with local estrogens, respectively). Conclusions. The positive effect of the treatment of pollakiuria symptoms, nocturia and urgency was detected a month later and was statistically significant in patients of both groups, compared with the original data. After three months, there is a high efficiency treatment of OAB symptoms, but the frequency of urgency in the combination therapy group was 1.7 times lower than in patients treated with only M-cholinolytics. Treatment of symptoms of drugs OAB M-cholinolytics for 3 months is effective in postmenopausal women as a monotherapy, or in combination with local estrogens.
