Somatoform pain disorder in orofacial region
Abstract
Somatoform disorders include chronic pain syndrome in the orofacial area-a syndrome of painful dysfunction of the temporomandibular joint. The key feature disease is pain. Absence of the pain in the orofacial area is criterion of recovery. In addition to algic phenomena, there are psychopathological phenomena. The one-sidedness of the medical approach, the ignoring of the psychopathological features of the disease manifestation and the concentration of therapeutic efforts exclusively on the corporal side of the patients suffering lead to unilateral therapeutic effects, and hence to the absence ofpathogenetically substantiated therapy.
