Abstract
Burning mouth syndrome is a chronic orofacial pain disorder with a high rate of diagnostic errors and a protracted course. This article compares a medication-oriented approach and rational dental treatment for this condition. The scientific novelty lies in the integration of recent Russian publications within a single analytical framework, examining the syndrome from a neurological, dental, psychodermatological, and hygienic perspective. The aim of the study is to systematize the structure of complaints, clarify pathogenetically significant clinical landmarks, compare therapeutic strategies, and propose a logical patient pathway. The material comprises Russian-language publications published between 2021 and 2025, covering clinical presentation, differential diagnosis, local dental factors, xerostomia syndrome, hygiene strategies, and psychopharmacotherapy. The study utilizes scientific publication analysis, comparative comparison, classification, logical-analytical analysis, and synthesis. The analytical section demonstrates that isolated medication alone does not address all pathogenesis, while rational dental treatment without assessing the neuropathic and psychoemotional profile often remains incomplete. The practical value lies in the ability to early differentiate between dental, neurological, psychosomatic, and somatic causes of complaints.
