Abstract
The purpose: to study the clinical efficiency of a new toothpaste for teeth whitening. After signing voluntary informed consent, 19 adults aged 18–25 years were involved in a prospective clinical trial. All participants brushed their teeth with a soft-bristled toothbrush and whitening toothpaste for a month. The colour of incisors, canines, and premolars (380 teeth) was recorded according to the Vita Classical scale. Tooth sensitivity was studied using a 10-point visual analogue scale. Dental examination of participants was conducted after 1, 2 weeks and a month, and questionnaires were conducted after a month. During the entire study period, no new or secondary carious and non-carious lesions of the teeth, pathology of the oral mucosa and lips were registered. The state of oral hygiene improved, the OHI-S index decreased by 63.7%. An improvement in the shade and/or tone of colour was registered in 89.3% of teeth. Irritation of the gums and increased sensitivity of the teeth were noted in single cases. According to the survey data, the toothpaste had good cleansing, deodorizing and tooth whitening properties. Therefore, the high clinical efficiency of the studied whitening toothpaste has been revealed, which makes it possible to recommend its use in adults.
