<trans-abstract xml:lang="en"><p>The review article discusses current medical literature on cognitive impairment in cardiovascular diseases associated with atherosclerosis. The authors present the analysis of the factors contributing to the development of cognitive impairment and their prevalence based on existing evidence. The article provides new insights into the pathogenesis of cognitive impairment in cardiovascular diseases associated with atherosclerosis as well as potential contribution of these risk factors. Particular attention is paid to the drug treatment of cognitive impairment with nicergoline (Sermion), a drug with a high affinity for a1-adrenoreceptors. The prescription of nicergoline for treating various types of cognitive impairments based on their severity are discussed. In addition, the article covers present evidence on its efficacy and safety.</p></trans-abstract><kwd-group xml:lang="ru"><kwd>когнитивные нарушения</kwd><kwd>сердечно-сосудистые заболевания</kwd><kwd>факторы риска</kwd><kwd>ницерголин (Сермион)</kwd></kwd-group><kwd-group xml:lang="en"><kwd>cognitive impairment</kwd><kwd>cardiovascular diseases</kwd><kwd>risk factors</kwd><kwd>nicergoline (Sermion)</kwd></kwd-group></article-meta></front><back><ref-list><title>References</title><ref id="cit1"><label>1</label><citation-alternatives><mixed-citation xml:lang="ru">Prince M., Wimo A., Guerchet M., et al.
