<trans-abstract xml:lang="en"><p>This article discusses issues related to the use of the preservative 2-phenoxyethanol in medicine and cosmetology. The scope of this substance in various types of medical, pharmaceutical and cosmetic products, its presence in nature, in plants such as avocados, green tea, is described. The physical properties of 2-phenoxyethanol and its mechanism of action are considered. It substantiates its content in goods in disinfectants and skin antiseptics (2 %) and perfumes and cosmetics (1 %). Potential safety issues with this substance are discussed. The absence of irritating effects on the skin, the absence of allergic reactions to the mucous membrane of the eyes, the absence of contact allergies and photosensitization, the absence of toxicity and hemolytic effect have been shown.</p></trans-abstract><kwd-group xml:lang="ru"><kwd>2-феноксиэтанол</kwd><kwd>консервант</kwd><kwd>использование в медицине</kwd><kwd>безопасность</kwd></kwd-group><kwd-group xml:lang="en"><kwd>2-phenoxyethanol</kwd><kwd>preservative</kwd><kwd>medical use</kwd><kwd>safety</kwd></kwd-group></article-meta></front><back><ref-list><title>References</title><ref id="cit1"><label>1</label><citation-alternatives><mixed-citation xml:lang="ru">ifrafragrance.org/initiatives/transparency/ifratransparency-list.</mixed-citation><mixed-citation xml:lang="en">ifrafragrance.org/initiatives/transparency/ifratransparency-list.</mixed-citation></citation-alternatives></ref><ref id="cit2"><label>2</label><citation-alternatives><mixed-citation xml:lang="ru">Технический регламент Таможенного союза о безопасности парфюмерно-косметической продукции ТР ТС 009/2011.</mixed-citation><mixed-citation xml:lang="en">Технический регламент Таможенного союза о безопасности парфюмерно-косметической продукции ТР ТС 009/2011.</mixed-citation></citation-alternatives></ref><ref id="cit3"><label>3</label><citation-alternatives><mixed-citation xml:lang="ru">www.drugbank.ca/drugs/DB 11304.</mixed-citation><mixed-citation xml:lang="en">www.drugbank.ca/drugs/DB 11304.</mixed-citation></citation-alternatives></ref><ref id="cit4"><label>4</label><citation-alternatives><mixed-citation xml:lang="ru">Рейнольдс JEF, Прасад AB (ред.)
