<trans-abstract xml:lang="en"><p>Depression belongs to the diseases with pronounced medical and social consequences, which include disability, reduced social functioning and suicides. There is the evidence that the depressive manifestations are closely related to disorders of circadian periodism and the function of the suprachiasmatic nuclei of the hypothalamus, the leading driver of biological rhythms. Authors reviewed the possibility to apply the concept of biological rhythms to the development and clinical features of depressive disorder. The potential effects of chronobiotic drugs like melatonin agonists is discussed.</p></trans-abstract><kwd-group xml:lang="ru"><kwd>депрессия</kwd><kwd>биологические ритмы</kwd><kwd>хронотип</kwd><kwd>десинхроноз</kwd><kwd>мелатонин</kwd><kwd>хронобиотические препараты</kwd></kwd-group><kwd-group xml:lang="en"><kwd>depression</kwd><kwd>biological rhythms</kwd><kwd>chronotype</kwd><kwd>desynchronosis</kwd><kwd>melatonin</kwd><kwd>chronobiotics</kwd></kwd-group></article-meta></front><back><ref-list><title>References</title><ref id="cit1"><label>1</label><citation-alternatives><mixed-citation xml:lang="ru">Хронобиология и хрономедицина / Под ред.
